There’s no doubting the current popularity of the Android platform and you don’t have to look far the days to find it gracing the likes of smartphones and tablets all over the world. This might raise the question in our mind that What might be the future of Android OS. The operating system developed by Google has become a huge hit, not only with users who love its easy to manage tools and functionality, but also with developers who find working with the OS a seamless experience.

And, during the next year or so it seems likely that the Android operating system will go on to make even more friends, thanks to ever-improving versions and updates along with the need for a greater number of apps that can run on the platform. Little wonder then that a recent study by Ovum, a research firm, has discovered that Android looks like becoming the number one system software for developers, which will push the iOS from Apple into second place.

Linked to this is the fact that many developers are also moving towards utilising HTML 5 to develop their creations, simply because it offers a more flexible way of producing content that can run across a whole variety of mobile devices. Mobile focused development tools such as Flash and Java are being side-lined for the HTML 5 option, and this combined with the improving Android OS should see a substantial growth in what’s available for the platform during the coming year.

The research also found that there was a growing interest in the Windows and BlackBerry platform, but it was still clear that Android would stay well out in front of the competition as the tool of choice for developers. Added to all this activity is the fact that there will be even more tablet devices added to the product ranges of most electronics manufacturers, and a good deal of those will come with the Android OS on-board.

There’s likely to be a flurry of activity as Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest update of the OS gets installed or updated on devices and Google is already hard at work on the next edition for the platform too. Improvements are likely to come through thick and fast, with everything from better web browsers and more intuitive web clients adding to the growing list of apps out there that ill help turn your device into a veritable computing powerhouse.

All that should mean a much better user experience, along with features such as unified social networking controls, facial recognition for unlocking the device you’re using and offline email searching and all will be either added or tweaked to mobile gadgets in order to give them a whole new lease of life. With this year also looking like being a bumper year for smartphones too it’s very likely that whatever gizmo you’re considering buying this year, Android is never going to be far away.
